Ever hear the phrase, “New year, new you?” Every new year is a chance to reset and start fresh. That can apply to many areas of your life, including starting new career goals.

2022 offers a fresh start to goal setting and careers, while the winds of change are beginning to swirl. Can you feel it? Maybe the pandemic is the catalyst for your career change, or maybe you just moved, graduated, or had kids. A survey conducted by Harris Poll found that 52% of U.S. workers are considering a job change. Whatever your reason for wanting something new, this year is all about finding a career that you love.

To help you get started this year, I have put together three easy go-to’s that will guide you throughout your goal setting process. Go grab your favorite notebook and pen, and start writing down your goals and dreams.

#1 Reflect on Past Goals

Now is the time to look back on the previous year. What worked out for you? What didn’t go as planned? Did you achieve all the goals you had mapped out for yourself? These are key questions to answer while you approach setting your new goals. Look at the areas you did well in so that you can replicate, or strengthen them. On the other end, note the areas you struggled with so that you can dissect the reason WHY things went sideways. This will give you a clear place to stand when you think about your new goals.

#2 Define this Year’s Theme

Probably the most important question of all. Each year, we give ourselves a theme to our goals. Have you defined your theme yet? Write down the word, idea, or goal you keep coming back to when you think about this year. Whatever you select will set the tone for the entire year. Set the theme and all will follow!

#3 Do Your Career Research

When setting your career goals, the beginning of the year is also a good time to do some research. Take a look at the latest stats, career trends, and industry growth. There are lots of great numbers to look at, and you might get some inspiration for next steps. Whatever it is that you are gearing up for this year in your career – do your research and don’t be afraid to reach out for help from a career development coach along the way.

Your 2022 Journey

As you take on the new year, remember that what you seek is seeking you. At the end of the day, take the time to sit with your thoughts to tune into what you want this year. Things begin to align when you connect to your inner compass. If you need some career support right now, let’s get connected with a discovery call
