The whole world was sort of placed on pause since March 11, 2020, when the World Health Organization declared a pandemic. The time at home had a lot of people making changes, including career changes, learning new skills, and a general different look at life. Now that employees are returning to the workplace, workers are choosing to find a new career that they love. If this sounds like you, stick around to learn how to launch a new career post pandemic.

Have you started thinking about launching your dream career post-pandemic? You are not alone! According to Prudential Financial’s Pulse of the American Worker survey, 1 in 4 workers are preparing to look for new employment opportunities. And, according to a Washington Post-Schar School poll, Nearly 1 in 3 U.S. workers under 40 have thought about changing their field of work since the pandemic began. So, is now the right time for you to jump ship and chase the dream? If so, I’m here to first off tell you that you can do it! And secondly, give you some advice. Let’s talk about what it takes to successfully change careers post pandemic.

How to Make a New Career Post Pandemic

Tweak Your Resume

If you have an old resume, the first thing you need to do is update it for the job you want – not the job you have/had. There are lots of people who have gaps in their resumes these days, so don’t be ashamed of it. Was there anything you did during that time that you could speak to? Perhaps you acquired a certification, volunteer work, or started a new skill that led you to a new career. Use this to help frame the way you used your gap time to your professional advantage. For those who didn’t have a gap, remember to tailor your resume to the job you want. Put your best skills first, so recruiters don’t have to search for them. Know Your Worth

Regardless of your situation, or what you have been faced with professionally over the past year, remember your value. You are worthy of a career that makes you happy and treats you right! On a sticky note, write yourself a friendly reminder of this exact message where you can see it every day. Never doubt your own worth, especially when it comes to your expertise. That’s the type of confidence that will land you the job!

Prepare For The Future

It’s no secret that we are moving towards a more technological world, and remote work is becoming ever-so normal. And the pandemic was a reminder that nothing stays the same. The job market looks different post-pandemic. So, prepare yourself for the jobs that are coming, even if that means you take an online class or pair up with a mentor for a little guidance.
